REVIEWS & ADVICE

Choosing scenic materials that remain convincing under exhibition lighting

A fictional comparison of texture, colour and durability when scenery will be viewed under bright hall lighting.

Texture matters more than colour alone

Flat colour can look convincing at home but lose depth under strong exhibition lighting. Layered fibres, fine textures and restrained variation create more natural surfaces.

Test under different light

Inspect sample boards under warm domestic lamps, daylight and cool LED lighting. This quickly reveals colours that become too saturated.

Plan for transport

Exhibition scenery needs resilience. Flexible foliage, firmly fixed details and repairable edges reduce damage during loading and unloading.
